My Simple Philosophy

May 28, 2018

Memorial Day is for remembering.  We remember our soldiers.  We remember wars.  We decorate graves.

Wars are tumultuous.  Life is the same.  It has been and will continue to be so.  It is "a given".  It is also “a given” that there are so many beautiful things.  In the midst of shootings and wars, and friends with cancer and other terrible diseases, I have had to reiterate my beliefs.  It keeps me on an “even keel”.

What do I believe?  What do I want?  I want fulfillment and a life that matters.

My beliefs:

I am created by God

Jesus is the personification of LIFE.

Knowing Jesus brings true life and everything that goes with it:  love, joy, peace, wisdom, hope…

People were created for goodness.  Evil is from hell.

Every person suffers and it establishes a God-centered hope.

The cross and the resurrection is the centerfold of all history.  It provides hope for the future kingdom that is not of this world that we can be a part of.

Love never fails.

Speaking again of tragedy, the greatest crisis is that we would forget our roots, our course and the future God intended for each and every one of us.

Today is Memorial day, and my pastor, this morning mentioned that God and his words are at the very root of our country's birth.  His words are etched in stone in all the D.C. monuments.  A Bible was placed in the cornerstone of the Washington monument and inscriptions are written at every step!  We can find His timeless truths at the Lincoln Memorial, the Supreme Court Building, and many others.  Let’s commemorate what is true and continue on.

Most importantly, let’s be reminded that God encapsulated all the commands into one. I love him for that! He made it very simple for us.    “Love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”  Matthew 22:37.

He provides endless love and we have the spiritual ability to give it back.  And then to others and even to ourselves!

Remember love.

"How blessed are those in whom you live, whose lives become roads you travel:  They wind through lonesome valleys, come upon brooks, discover cool springs and pools brimming with rain?  God travelled, these roads curve up the mountain and at the last turn - Zion!  God in full view."   Psalm 84 from The Message Bible
